A.P. English Has Boosted My Ego? How Ironic

I have been holding back from bursting out-as illustrated by the picture above.

Sarah Greenlaw had blogged about how we have become “A.P. English Zombies”. I agree with her completely. After I read that post, I began to observe some very strange things, myself included. My attention became focused in on my lunch table. On a normal day the population of my fifth period lunch table consists of a pretty consistent, 50% A.P. English students and 50% non A.P. English students. This should not matter though, friends first and English second right? Wrong. So many times an Honors English friend will complain about an essay or an absurd twelve page Iambic Pentameter poem they must complete, and all I can think to say is well that’s easy compared to A.P. English. I thought at first it must be a personal pride issue, but then I began to observe my fellow A.P. English-ers, and they too respond bitterly to complaints. The real action spikes out however, when Honors English students try to talk about Ms. Serensky as if they know her. She has become quite a Chagrin celebrity, and just because someone drops off a pass to the room, does not mean they got all buddy -buddy. The most common response thus far has been dead silence, or a “well..no..that’s not how she is actually”. I find myself reacting as if someone has bad mouthed one of my brother’s. Even when they aren’t complaining, just talking about Honors English with them stresses us out. It is as if we know this entire world that they could know, but chose not to. I think frustrating suits that description. Non-the-less, Ms. Serensky always says she’s “pushing us to be the best we can be”, so why not walk with a little pride. After all of the essays, the data sheets, the participation points, we deserve to have a little bit of shine around the school. Don’t we?
