So Much to Say

On Thursday, the quote written on the board read, “I find sometimes it’s easy to be myself, sometimes I find it’s better to be somebody else” Dave Matthews Bands. I smiled when I read that, it comes from the song, “So Much to Say”, one of my all time favorite Dave Matthews Band songs. I had an amazing talk about those exact lyrics with a good friend of mine this past summer. I told her about where I stood in life, and how these days the easy way out of my problems, rarely ever were also the right way out. It seemed, I said, that everyone acted so fake around certain people, and so real around others. I find myself thinking, for every bitter word I could speak of someone, I most likely have a word of admiration to challenge it with. So why do we as a society always focus on the negative? Because negativity brings people down, it brings societies down. I truly think negativity and positivity prove equal in contagiousness. When some negative person gets thrown into a group, most times, the other group members join in on the negativity, only enhancing it. Likewise, that one person who always seems so happy, they alone can truly light up a room! “I find sometimes it’s easy to be myself”, like when I’m alone, or when I am comfortable with each and every person around me. Times come however, “I find it’s better to be somebody else”, when it means fitting in, or becoming something I am not. The song, “So Much to Say”, has an incredible and original tune, Dance Matthews has an insane voice, but I had completely overlooked the depth of the lyrics. When speaking to my good friend about all of the junior year chaos, she reminded me of who I am. I am whoever I desire, on whatever day I choose, and no one can pull me down. Just for anyone reading this, live outrageously, dream unstoppably, and love all. Also thanks to Miss Serensky for that quote, it really brightened up my day!

Side note: I actually came home after that talk inspired with an idea for a picture. I have posted that above!

  1. Carly, I love this post! It was very inspirational. I have had many very negative experiences, but I look back on them and think about the positive things that have come out of it. I always try to see the glass half full, not half empty. I think this perception that we both share will get us farther in life.
